What is this page about?

Hello, I'm Bri!! I'm going to be using this page to share my interests, projects, and general thoughts. I don't have a very interesting life, but I'm hoping that I can present the most entertaining part of me to all of you and also spice up my routine a bit like this.

Shoutout to lrds for making me want to do this!

I'm interested in all kinds of nerdy stuff and I love media analysis, so expect some reviews of my own for whatever I'm watching/reading/playing at the time, which will be objectibly correct and the only way in which media should be interpreted (JK xb). There are also some creative projects I want to tackle, I will post updates without any kind of schedule, and don't expect anything amazing, I'm not an artists XD!!

What am I interested in?

There are a lot of things that I like, but a general view of it would be like this:

  • Movies
  • BAD Movies
  • Singleplayer videogames
  • Manga (Usually romance or comedy, but I'm trying to expand my taste)
  • Cartoons/Anime (Specially from the 2000s-early 2010s)
  • 2000s tech aesthetics (You could probably already tell, though XD)
  • Worldbuilding
  • Puzzles

This is a VERY general overview but my tastes should become more apparent as I post more.

My creative projects

Here are some of my concepts of a creative project, they're very bare bones but they have a special place in my heart, ok?

Cries of the soul (Title subject to change)

The story of a hermit being thrusted into an unknown world and having to face the dangers that inhabit it. With a magic system with clear rules but a great deal of range as to what characters can do with it and (hopefully) original races with their own histories and cultures.

(Title pending)

A world impacted with an otherworldly threat and a prodigy with an opportunity to become the succesor to her hero. Humanity fights back using the same power that attacks our world. With a clearcut power system defined by your essence as a person and the theme of succesion, this is a scifi story about humanity preserving peace in our world.

My faves!!

I've already told you a bit about what I like, but this section's dedicated to the GOATs on each area (☆▽☆), either the ones that I enjoy the most or that I keep coming back to, Thtt doesn't mean I consider them flawless or anything. Most entries here don't share the same criteria when I dub them as my "Favourite" this is more of a feelings section, really.

Pacific rim poster

Favourite movie: PACIFIC RIM

An absolute love letter to mecha anime from Gullermo del Toro. I first watched this movie a few years ago, and ever since then I've fallen in love with it. I'm a lover of most of its atributtes such as scifi ,mechas, kaijus, and ridiculoud action. I'd say the greatest points of this movie are the visuals, the character design, the score, the cinematography and the fight coreagraphy. it isn't perfecto tho :/ the dialogue feels very unatural and "epic movie"esque at times and the setting feels like its just there so that the movie can happen, the idea that the jaegers were made because nothing else can go against the kaiju is just ridiculous but I love that it happened anyway. If you strapped me to a chair and hit me with the chinese waterdrop torture for ten days and then asked me if I thought the story was good I'd say no. And if you then waterboarded me for four hours straight and asked me the same questions I'd still say no. BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER I DIDN'T PUT THE MOVIE ON FOR COMPLEX THEMES AND MEANINGFUL DIALOGUE OR THIRD DIMENSIONAL CHARACTER, I PUT THE MOVIE ON TO WATCH ROBOTS AND MONSTERS BEAT EACH OTHER THE FUCK UP AND IT DELIVERS JUST THAT. Ps. Cherno Alpha 4 life.

The room three

Favourite videogame: The Room Three

The Room series (the games, not the crappy movie(¬_¬)) are some of the best puzzle videogames there are. If someone was getting into puzzle games I would honesslty be hesitant to recommend this as their first because it might ruin every other game they play after, as they just don't compare to the quality of this series. There are 5 games in te series, with one being a VR exclusive, which I haven't played yet, and out of all of them the third entry is my absolute favourite. All of the games share the same "Vibe" but the third one steps it up by putting you in haunted manor called "Grey Holm" and having you explore each of its rooms to search for items or puzzles to help you progress and the ambieance is absolutely amazing from start to finish, it takes a lot of elements from horror and mystery media that gives it a unique flavor that I haven't managed to find anywhere else. The puzzles themselves are amazing, they are based on puzzle boxes, which are puzzles that exist irl, HOWEVER, this being a videogame gives the puzzles the benefit of not being bound to the rules that limit puzzles in our wolrd, like euclidean law or the natural flow of time, and that is spomething this game utilizes to the max to make the puzzles a lot more enjoyable and challenging. Overall, I love this game and evertything this series has to offer.

Ore monogatari!!/My love story!! Volume 1 cover

Favourite manga: Ore monogatari!!/My love story!! (Spoiler warning)

The story of Takeo, a guy unpolular with women; Suna, his handsome friend; and Yamato, the girl that falls for him. This story is more fluff than anything else, honestly, but in a world where angst is the most popular category in everything its nice to have a story of people that just love eachother. I first dicovered it through its anime, which I adored as well, a few years ago, once I started getting more into reading manga I picked it up from where the anime left off, only to dicovered the anime had skipped a few chapters to fit into all the content they wanted in the season. So I decided to start from chapter 1 instead and it was the best desicion ever as every chapter contains little details that were skipped in the anime, and although I say all of this I still would recommend to watch the anime first since the manga layout can make certain scenes a bit confusing at times.

I love a lot of things from this story, from the artsyle to the dialogue(depending on the translation) they're all lovely, but what really captivated me was its subversiveness. Gouda Takeo isn't a suave, good-looking, charming guy; he has his own way of being that attracts people to him along with his own idea of "Being a man" that I believe should be more present in media as a whole. Along with him is his friend Sunakawa (Suna) Makoto who IS a good-looking, charming guy, but he is never presented as a romantic rival or even a threat, he is presented as what he really is, Takeo's best friend. He supports him in every aspect of his life and Takeo does the same in return, to the point of not telling Takeo about his father's medical complications because it might spoil Yamato's birthday celebration. The two of them are one of the greatest representations of "Frindship" in animanga that I've seen. And to finish the trio we have Yamato Rinko, Takeo's girlfriend, who Takeo first believes to be in love with Suna. At the start of the story she is presented as a very conventional romance heroine, who is sweet, caring and cute, but as the story progresses we find out she is a lot more daring than she lets on. At the start of the story she visits Takeo to thank him for helping her out against a perv on the train and she accidently leaves her cellphone at his house and she asks him to meet up so that she can give it to her, but in reality, she figured out what school he goes to from his uniform and asks around there for where she can find him and once she visits she leaves her phone there ON PORPUSE so that they'll have to meet up again. Her being someone that doesn't let the opportunities she is presented with pass her by ia a breath of fresh air, I'm a bit tired of fmcs that just let the story drag them along and I love how proactive she is about him.

All in all, this is one of the best shoujo mangas I've ever read, and that I continue to re-read on ocassion. If you want to check it out then... good luck. This manga seems to be alergic to being available to read. Here's a link to where I was able to read it in its entirety (Minus volume 14 which appears to be missing everywhere, but you don't need it to finish the story): Ore monogatari!! on FanFox

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

Favourite anime: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (Spoiler warning)

One of the best animes I've seen, with one of the best animation styles, art styles, and power systems there are. A story about overcoming the odds with pure power of will in a world that constantly pushes back. Its one of the first animes I watched as a teen and I inmediately feel in love with it. I'm almost tempted to not say anything about it so that anyone that discovers this anime through this page will have to watch it themselves.

Simon is one of my favourite protaginists ever, seeing him go from a scared kid that followed his big brother around to the saviour of the universe is one of the biggest adventures a show will have you going on. Him being the only one that can use the lagann made little sense to me at first, but after Kamina tells the story of how Simon managed to get them out of a cave in it all made sense, and it made me see simon in a whole new light. Kamina should have no introduction, he's one of the most famous "Big brother" archetype character that there are. His passing was one of the most surprising points in the story, "Never give up" stories usually keep main characters alive and use the deaths of terciary and secondary characters to keep you on your toes, so killing a half of the Gurren Lagann pilot duo was like a sucker punch to your entire body. However, it was necessary, if Kamina remained alive the rest of th show Simon could have never grown to the point that he did, he would still be depending on Kamina, which wouldn't be wrong sice Simon IS still a kid but it was not what the brigade needed, they would have only gone so far with kamina.

AND THAT IS ALL I'M GOING TO SAY!!! I really would love for anyone seeing this to check out the show if its interested you, I will warn you that this show breasts boobaly at times, but not majorly. It should be available in most platform that stream or rent anime.

"Don't believe in yourself. Believe in me. Believe in the me that believes in you" -Kamina

4x4 Rubik's cube

Favourite puzzle: 4x4 Rubik's cube / Rubik's revenge

The succesor to one of the best puzzles in history, the original Rubik's cube, the 4x4 add an entire new layer of challenge by making the centers of the cube not remain static, instead having you organize them yourself. Along with that, the edges of the cube, which used to be a singlura piece, are now divided in two seperate ones that you have to pair up in orders ro solve it. The way you solve it is mainly the same as the classic 3x3 if you use the beginner's method, safe from the last layer which may require algorithms that were not present on the 3x3 and that can be a bit tricky to remember if this is one of your first puzzles. They are all very satisfying to pull off, I even do them with a fully solved cube just for fun.

I cannot think of a single reason why I classify this one as my favourite among the ones I have, but whenever my hands are empty I always tend to gravitate towards this one. Just a bit more challenging than the 3x3, but not as time comsuming as the 5x5 or 6x6 might be. I find it to have a really good balance between fun and challenge.
